Development work on the multi-million rupees Gorakh Hill station project, which was halted since last year's countrywide heavy rains, is likely to be resumed shortly, it is learnt.
Sources in Sindh Culture, Tourism and Social Welfare Department told Business Recorder on Tuesday that he new government seemed to be interested to restart the construction work and was planning to remove the boulders which fell on main road during last year's heavy rains.
They said that authority concerned has issued directive for the removal of big boulders from the road as soon as possible, and expressed hope that it would take about a month to clear the path. Sources said that the tourist resorts, huts and restaurants would be constructed at Gorakh Hill as part of government plan to promote tourism in the province and provide recreational facilities to tourists.
These resorts and huts would be available at cheap rates as compared to similar facilities in Murree and other hill stations and would also provide easy access to the Mazar of Lal Shahbaz Qalandar, Manchar Lake and other nearby historic and recreational places, they said.
Sources said that due to lack of necessary facilities, the historic, cultural and recreational sites of Sindh province had always been ignored since Independence. But the present government is very keen to facilitate Sindh, and is planning to provide basic amenities across province, especially in undeveloped and under-developed districts, which would also help in promoting tourism in this region, they added.
The hill's peak, 5,688 feet above sea level, makes it the coldest spot in the province where climate remains chilly throughout the year in sharp contrast to unbearably high temperatures elsewhere in Sindh. It has beautiful scenic sites and waterfalls. After the accomplishment of the project, they believe, the Sindh province would host at least 40,000 to 50,000 tourists at these places every year.
