New Zealand share prices closed up 0.70 percent on Wednesday with top blue chips leading the way despite more weakness on Wall Street, dealers said. The NZX-50 gross index rose 25.21 points to 3,608.47 on turnover worth 134 million dollars (106.7 million US). Rising stocks outnumbered falls 52 to 37.
Second-ranked Contact Energy rose 13 cents to 9.15 dollars and Fletcher Building recovered early losses to end up three cents at 8.53. New Zealand Oil and Gas rose six cents to a new record high of 1.62 dollars after oil prices continued to rise.
Air New Zealand fell 10 cents to a year low of 1.19 dollars after downgrading its operating profit outlook due to high jet fuel prices. Fisher & Paykel Appliances fell three cents to 2.52 dollars, Rakon dropped four cents to 2.08 and Fisher & Paykel Healthcare was down three cents at 2.68.
