The sole senator of Jamhoori Wattan Party (JWP), Aga Shahid Hassan Bugti has asked Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani to make a clear cut announcement for ending the military operation in Balochistan. Senator Bugti demanded this on the floor of Senate on Monday.
He has decided to sit on the treasury benches and also demanded of the coalition government to register FIR on the brutal assassination of nationalist leader Nawab Akber Khan Bugti.
"The Prime Minister should categorically announce on the floor of Senate to end the military operation in Balochistan in a similar manner as he did in the National Assembly to release the deposed judges soon after his election," he maintained. Bugti opined that the negotiation process in Balochistan could be fruitful if the government end the military operation launched by the previous government.
He further said that the affairs of Balochistan have now switched over from political hands to militants due to the rude attitudes and wrong policies of the previous military led-regime.
"Each society has its own style of protest and the Balochis have gone to mountains to resist as a protest against the oppressive policies of the government," he said citing that like people of Karachi and Lahore torch vehicles and burn properties to record their agitation. "To appease them, their demands have to be met and the first demand is end to military operation," he added.
He, however, appreciated the steps taken by the new coalition government and hoped to settle the issues being faced by the people of Balochistan. Senator Abdul Rahim Mandokhail of Pakhtoonkhawa Milli Awami Party also demanded to end the military operation in Balochistan and give provincial rights.
He further said that the coalition government should restore the pre-November 3, Judiciary as the people have given mandate for this purpose. On February 18, he said, people of Pakistan rejected emergency and all the extra-constitutional steps taken by the President. The Pushtoon leader also demanded of the coalition government to take practical steps for granting provincial rights.
