The government on Tuesday appointed a Pakistan People's Party (PPP) senior leader, Izhar Amrohvi, as advisor to the parliamentary affair division of the law ministry. Amrohvi, who served on the same position in PPP previous stints in power, will be enjoying the status of the federal secretary.
He has been appointed in basic pay scale (BPS) 22. Izhar, 65, graduated from famous Allahabad University in India prior to his family moved to Pakistan.
He is one of the pioneer members of the PPP, when it was established by late former Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto way back in late 1960s. Izhar served as the secretary of the party's parliamentary body from 1972 onward till military chief Ziaul Haq overthrew Bhutto and imposed martial law in 1977.
And when the PPP formed the government in 1988, he was made the advisor to the parliamentary affairs division. He once again held the position in the PPP's stint in power between 1993 and 1997. During the previous regime, Amrohvi performed the duties of party's parliamentary body secretary.
