The services rendered by the outgoing Pakistan High Commissioner Dr Maleeha Lodhi for strengthening Anglo-Pak bilateral relations and her contributions to the cause of Kashmir were praised by the British members of Parliament here on Wednesday.
All Party Parliamentary Group of Kashmir arranged "A farewell to Dr Lodhi" at the House of Commons in which a number of MPs lauded her role in bringing the two countries further together, consolidating the ties and developing close association with the Kashmir diaspora and the UK-based Pakistani community.
The Chair of APPGK Margaret Moran said Dr Lodhi has been a real catalyst in taking the Kashmir cause forward through her active role. She has been a terrific diplomat for her country who contributed much towards the cause of Kashmir. Moran said Dr Lodhi had been an outstanding friend of the Kashmir Group in the Parliament and a beacon of hope for those endeavouring to resolve the issue.
Her knowledge and grasp of the Kashmir issue had a profound effect on those in the Group, Moran added. MPs Martin Salter, Paul Goodman, Marsha Singh, Dari Taylor, Rob Morris and Rob Morris also paid rich tributes to Dr Lodhi and described her as an outstanding friend of APPGK and expressed hope that her abundant experience as a diplomat would be utilised back home in a befitting manner. At the conclusion Dr Lodhi was presented with a bouquet and painting of the Houses of Parliament by the group members.
