The Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has urged the Chief Minister and Minister for Home Sindh to direct the concerned Inspector General and DIG police to arrest the culprits involved in attempt to kidnap and killing of furniture dealer, Shaikh Salim.
The demand was made during a meeting of KCCI Special Committee of Small traders held on Wednesday. The meeting also announced full support to the strike call given by furniture dealers for Friday. The Chairman Special Committee, Abdul Majeed Memon termed law and order condition in the city as grim and demanded of the government to take appropriate measures to improve it.
He expressed concern over increasing incidents of looting at gunpoint and urged the government to increase police patrolling in market areas, establishing police packets and installing vigilant hidden cameras. He said that due to increasing prices of essential items, purchasing power of the middle and lower middle income group is fast declining which may take serious turn.
The KCCI Senior Vice President, Iftikhar Ahmed Shaikh said that the government must take steps so that the traders could perform business activities in a comfortable atmosphere. Anwar Pasha suggested that the chamber should call a meeting with Inspector General of Police to discuss security issue in markets. One of the participants suggested that at least one bomb diffusing trained person should be posted in each police station. He said that there is only one trained person at bomb disposal squad, which is not enough for the entire city.
Another participant suggested that instead of issuing arm license, government must take steps to control crimes in the city. Mohammed Haroon suggested that the government should issue arm license to all those persons who are paying income tax. KCCI Vice President, Haroon Agar advised KCCI members to apply for arm license through the Chamber and assured that the application would be forwarded with recommendation.
