More driving license centres will be set up in the provincial capital to help motorists get their licenses easier. A meeting held under the chairmanship of Inspector General of Punjab Police Shaukat Javed on Friday reviewed the performance of traffic police and took various important measures.
Traffic Deputy Inspector General Ghalib Ali Bandisha and Chief Traffic Officer Ghulam Muhammad Dogar were also present. The meeting also decided that road leading from the Ravi Bridge to the Civil Secretariat would be made Model Road under which all permanent and temporary encroachments would be removed.
In this connection the IG Police directed the DIG Traffic to eliminate all encroachments from service roads so that slow moving traffic could be diverted on these roads. He also directed them to install pedestrian signals on important chowks so that people could cross the road safely. He also directed to launch a special campaign against the red light jumpers and vehicles having improper lights and indicators.
Pemra has approved the license of FM Radio traffic channel of Punjab Traffic Police and its transmission will start soon. The FM Radio will inform the citizens about the traffic situation on roads so that people may not face any inconvenience. It was also informed that website of traffic police has been lunched and people could get information about driving license from the website.
The IG Police directed traffic officers to take strict legal action against the persons who violate traffic rules and park their vehicles wrongly. He also directed to establish special squads of traffic wardens for the checking of pollution.
