The moneychangers here at Chowk Yadgar Tuesday observed a two-hour shutter down in protest against the Motorway robbery of Rs 135 million. The local trading community has also joined the protest of the Currency Dealers Association and demanding arrest of the dacoits and return of their cash.
The two trading bodies Traders Alliance of Haji Mohammad Haleem Jan and United Traders' Association of Haji Ghufran are fully supporting the movement launched by the currency dealers in this regard.
The currency dealers kept the shutter of their shops down and avoid trading for two hours and gathered at a camp established at Chowk Yadgar. The protesting moneychangers staged a protest domestication and chanted slogans against the provincial government and Motorway police. They were also carrying banners and placards inscribed with slogans in favour of their demands.
Addressing the protesting moneychangers, Haji Haleem Jan, leader of the Traders Alliance and former president of Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) flayed the government for failure in providing protection to the trading community. He said that the government and local administration had failed in provision of security to the business community.
He said that dacoits and kidnappers for ransom reign the province as broad day light abductions and robberies and dacoities had become a routine matter. He vowed that the protest movement of the trading community would remain continue till the arrest the culprits involved in the Motorway robbery.
Others who addressed the protestors were included president Currency Dealers Association, Haji Sherzada Khan, general secretary Shakeel Ahmad Khan, president United Traders Front, Haji Ghufran and Malik Mehr Elahi. Later,the protestors dispersed peacefully.
