At Gulistan-e-Jouhar Chowrangee, the first-ever electronic traffic signal installed just 3 months before, has already turned faulty and inoperative and also remains unmanned by traffic police. This is inviting uncontrolled flow of vehicular traffic in 4 directions as before, when there was no signal at all.
The structure of electric pole with 4 sided lights installed here is comparatively of small size than the standard size of traffic signals installed at other roundabouts. From the beginning neither all bulbs of this signal were fully functional nor any timings set for their off and on system.
Further, some political party workers during recent elections, hoisted their party flags on top of this traffic signal, which are not yet removed; as a result the pole could not bear the uncalled for weight on it and turned and bent, changing the direction of signal lights.
On top of every thing, not a single traffic cop was ever seen patrolling or guarding the flow of traffic as per lights at this traffic signal. Due to mismanaged and uncontrolled traffic signal, all types of light and heavy vehicular traffic tend to pass via either direction from any side in complete ignorance of traffic regulations.
This violent movement of traffic, often causes unnecessary blockage in all directions of the road, at times resulting in minor and major accidents. The non-deployment of traffic police is encouraging various public and private vehicles, specially motorcycle riders to fast drive in opposite direction of one way traffic road to cross and change roadside in ignorance designated cut for turning between Jouhar Morh and Chowrangee and also from service lane to main road and vice versa.
No doubt, the newly constructed roads and service lanes in Gulistan-e-Jouhar gave a breath of relief to the residents of this area but the entire facilitation is disturbed and causing breach of peace due to uncontrolled flow of violent vehicular traffic.
The Chief Secretary of Sindh, DIG (Traffic) Karachi and CDGK are requested to take notice of the situation and arrange rectification of signal faults besides permanent posting of traffic police from early hours of the morning till late night at Jouhar Chowrangee traffic signal.
