Mexican Ambassador to Pakistan Arturo Hernandez has said that strenuous efforts are being made for further accelerating the pace of bilateral trade between Mexico and Pakistan.
Addressing the members of Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) here on Thursday he revealed that there are ample opportunities of setting up joint venture and business collaboration in various areas of trade between the two countries.
The higher authorities of Mexico and Pakistan are considering to find out the ways and means for the promotion and to enhance the volume of bilateral trade between the two countries, he added.
He said that exports of rice to Mexico is totally banned yet the higher authorities are actively involved in resolving the issue sooner or later. The Mexican Ambassador informed the house that full-fledged Embassy of Mexico has already been established in Islamabad, which would not only work for speeding up the trade relations but also help strengthen the cordial relations between the two countries. The Embassy, he said, would facilitate the Pakistani business community and enabling it to explore the Mexican market.
President SCCI Dr Khurram Anwar Khawaja said that Pakistan and Mexico are playing instrumental role in strengthening political and economic relations with each other. The SCCI President suggested that in order to enhance trade it is essential that private sectors of both the countries should come forward and interact more frequently.
The trade between Pakistan and Mexico is very low that remained below $100 million in 2006-07 while the balance of trade is in favour of Pakistan with important export products being textile, rice, sports goods, surgical instrument and leather garments etc he said.
