Partly Facetious: what Nawaz can, Musharraf can't give Asif

"What is it about the November 3 actions that are so difficult to undo for Zardari?"
Published May 17, 2008

"What is it about the November 3 actions that are so difficult to undo for Zardari?"
"I am stumped as well."
"Why would Zardari set a bad precedence whereby a chief of army staff's actions must be undone by two-thirds majority in parliament?"
"Considering how many bad precedences have been set in this country, I would think this is the very worst as it reflects an opportunity lost."
"Indeed but what can Musharraf offer Zardari that Nawaz Sharif cannot offer more legitimately in the eyes of the PPP's national constituency?"
"Could it be the end of all cases against him?"
"I guess but the last of the cases against him has been dropped."
"And on that day Salman Taseer was made Governor much to the chagrin of the Nawaz league."
"I see - the rewards follow very soon thereafter."
"Indeed where there is no faith rewards have to follow quickly, if you know what I mean."
"But I don't consider this the main reason. What I mean is that at this point anyone can go to the courts against the National Reconciliation Ordinance right? But I believe Nawaz Sharif could offer the NRO parliamentary approval."
"Again I am not sure why Zardari opted for the way he is going."
"Rabbani, a well spoken man, has demanded that Qayyum be sacked, if he doesn't resign."
"The tradition of resignation, to make a graceful exit, somehow doesn't seem to sit well with die-hard Musharrafites."
"Indeed, so what next?"
"I would imagine the next threat would come from within."
"Nawaz Sharif is unlikely to..."
"I meant for Zardari. The threat will come from within - he has already alienated quite a few of his own party stalwarts."
"Ah yes, and worse comes to worse there is always Dubai or London..."
"Do not forget the US."
"I haven't and I daresay neither has Zardari."
