The All Parties Democratic Movement (APDM) will early next month hold a national conference to seek suggestions from non-political activists about when to hit streets to launch what its leaders called a decisive anti-Musharraf battle.
Intellectuals, media persons, lawyers and politicians will gather here on June 1 for brainstorming over how bitter opponents of President Pervez Musharraf should react to new government's failure to reinstate deposed judges.
Last week, the APDM top leaders decided to hold the conference for devising future strategy. They formed a committee to finalise date and arrangements. The APDM is a group of political parties that boycotted February parliamentary polls under Musharraf and is now contemplating agitation against the new government to punish it for failing to remove the President.
Right wing Jamaat-i-Islami (JI), Baloch nationalist Pukhtoonkhawa Mili Awami Party (PkMAP) and Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) with apparent socialist leanings are major parties in the ideologically diverse alliance. The committee met here on Monday with Jamaat-i-Islami stalwart Liaqat Baloch in the chair.
Talking to media persons after the meeting, Baloch said all political parties, lawyers, civil society, traders, students and the people from all walks of life would be invited to participate in the national moot.
He said the APDM would participate in every convention, rally and gathering of legal fraternity for the reinstatement of deposed judges. Lawyers, who successfully spearheaded a movement to reinstate chief justice Iftikhar Chaudhry last year, have once again announced to launch another movement for the same purpose next month.
Liaqat Baloch alleged PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari was not willing to reinstate deposed judges due to the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO).
He demanded of the ruling alliance to impeach President Pervez Musharraf. He said another committee headed by former MNA Mian Muhammad Aslam had been constituted to finalise arrangements of the national conference.
