Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati reminded the Ulema and rulers of the Muslim countries of their duty to revive the glory of Islamic laws, and forge unity within their ranks.
The Ayatollah, who is the Chairman of Iran's upper house, Nigahban Council, charged with scrutinising legislation from the Islamic angle, was speaking here at the Islamic Ideology Council on 'challenges facing the Muslim world' here on Monday night.
Muslims had become weak because they became foreign to Islamic laws and took to profane habits such as drinking and merry making, and began to quarrel with each others.
The outer world took advantage of their internecine war and fractious behaviour and pounced on them, he added. The Iranian leader said the correct path for Islamic countries is to return to the Islamic teachings and forge unity. 'The Millat, or the Muslim nation is one and indivisible although it might be dispersed over 56 diverse countries and places.'
Earlier Islamic ideology Council Chairman Dr Khalid Masud welcomed the Chairman of Iranian Nigahban Council. He said the job of Pakistani Ideology Council and the Iranian Nigahban Council was similar. The two organisations were in constant touch in gathering information on the subject of Islamic legislation.
Dr Khalid Masud said the Ayatollah's current visit to Pakistan reciprocated similar journey to Iran undertaken by the Pakistan Ideology Council. The Islamic Ideology Chairman also hosted dinner in honour of the Iranian delegation.
