Senior Minister and Minister for Irrigation and Power Raja Riaz Ahmed has said 84 farmers' organisations of the Area Water Board and Lower Chenab Canal (East) circle have spent Rs 3.8 million on repairing and maintenance water channels.
"This amount has been spent on self-help basis and out of FOs share of 40 percent of Abiana collection." He told various farmers' organisation representatives met him at the irrigation Headquarters office on Friday. "Up to 38 cases of Chakbandi have also been disposed of by these FOs of AWB/LCC (East) Circle," he added.
He said the farmers' organisations had checked 4233 outlets in this period. He expressed satisfaction over the fact that FOs have helped in improving canal operations and water distribution equity up to tails. FOs inclusion in Abiana collection has helped in improving Abiana collection and recovery of past dues. Pida has launched numerous programmes about office management, budgeting, auditing and financial discipline, he concluded.
