Punjab Chief Minister, Sardar Dost Muhammad Khosa, has urged not to compromise over merit, especially, in the sectors of education and health and said that the provincial government is evolving a comprehensive programme for fully benefiting from the talented individuals in health sector.
He was talking to senior doctors on Thursday during his visit at the University of Health Sciences (UHS). Provincial Food Minister Malik Nadeem Kamran also accompanied him. He said undue recommendation for any medical student or trainee doctor tantamount to being a serious crime.
He assured the vice-chancellor of University of Health Sciences (UHS) that Chief Minister's Secretariat will not interfere in the professional affairs or any matter in violation of rules and regulations. He said that management of the University in the hands of a highly competent and efficient administration which is playing a key role in the promotion of medical education in the province.
He assured that Punjab government would extend all out co-operation to the university regarding promotion of medical education and provision of healthcare facilities in the far-flung areas of the province. He further said that he was pleased to know that University of Health Sciences has evolved a transparent examination system due to which talented students of poor and middle class families are also becoming doctors.
On the occasion, Vice Chancellor of University, Professor Malik Hassan Mubasher, informed the minister that university had introduced MSc Nursing classes first time in Punjab, while 50 medical colleges and institutions in private and public sectors have affiliated with the university.
Furthermore, he said 165 doctors are also doing PhD and Mphil, whereas work is in progress on 183 research projects. He said the university has established computer resource labs in 12 medical colleges for the benefit of research students. He then visited the Computer Resource Lab, Wireless Network, English Language Lab, Skill Lab, MSc Medical Lab, Video Conference Room and other sections of the hospital.
