Secretary Health Punjab, Anwaar Ahmad Khan, has urged the medical teachers to strictly follow professional code of conduct while performing their duties that is essential to upgrade the standard of medical education at par with developed countries.
He expressed these views while addressing a meeting of faculty members of Fatima Jinnah Medical College (FJMC), here on Thursday. Principal FJMC, Professor Abdul Majeed Chaudhry and the faculty members were present in the meeting.
Professor Majeed Chaudhry briefed the Secretary Health regarding educational and training activities being carried out in the college. He also apprised the Secretary of the development projects.
He informed that operation theatres had been renovated and upgraded while a skill lab had also been established for the practical training of medical students.' Women Breast Clinic is fully functional and Liver Clinic is near to be completed', he added.
He, further, informed that liver plantation would be possible in Sir Ganga Ram Hospital within a year. He informed that setting of Cardiology unit, Plastic Surgery and Neuro Surgery projects had been included in the future plan.
Meanwhile, Professor Majeed told that an International Medical Educational Conference would be held in FJMC in October 2008 in which Medical Educationists from all over the country as well as abroad would participate and the proposals and recommendations for the upgradation of medical education would be prepared.
Secretary Health, while addressing the meeting said that government provided funds and resources and medical equipment in the hospitals, however, raising the standard of medical education remained the responsibility of the medical educationists.
However, he urged the senior professors to promote professionalism and missionary spirit in their juniors, adding that experts should prepare themselves to face the challenges faced in health sector. Later, he also visited Breast Clinic, Gynae Operation Theater, Surgical Units, Emergency and Skill lab and assured that more funds would be provided for development projects.
