Alternate Energy Development Board (AEDB) Chairman Muhammad Yousuf Memon has said the government is actively considering proposals to address the problems of the people of desert areas of Sindh.
Memon, talking to people during his visit to different villages of Tharparkar district, said the issues to be addressed would particularly included provision for energy and safe water, according to a press release issued here on Friday. The prime objective of the government, he said, was to provide all facilities to the people of the desert as well as remote parts of the country.
AEDB Chairman said the government had initiated steps in this direction and prepared various development plans to facilitate the people. He also visited the homes locally called "Chorans" and enquired the villagers about the problems being faced by them.
The villagers informed him of the brackish water and said non-availability of drinking water, electricity and health were the major problems being faced by them. They also informed him that livestock and carpet weaving were the only source of income for them, while the income from agriculture produces depended on the storage of rainwater.
The villagers thanked the chairman and the project director for taking initiative of lightening their Chorans, adding that steps of the government had created hopes among them for a positive change in their socio-economic conditions.
Yousuf Memon accompanied by REP Project Director Sindh Dr Riazuddin Abro, Ziauddin Maher, Suresh Kumar Khatri, Ahsanullah Memon and Kazim Iqbal assured that each Choran would be energised through solar system while provision of pure drinking water through water desalination would also be ensured soon.
