Published May 24, 2008

Major stock markets outside the United States ended on Friday.
EUROPE STOCK EXCHANGE: European stocks fell 1.7 percent, losing ground for the third time in four sessions as a dip in metal prices prompted investors to book recent lofty gains on mining shares.
Oil prices also weighed on sentiment as they resumed their climb, fuelling worries over inflation and the outlook for company results. The FTSEurofirst 300 index of top European shares closed 1.7 percent lower, at 1,322.22 points. The index ended the week with a loss of 3.1 percent, its worst weekly performance since early March.
FRANKFURT STOCK EXCHANGE: The DAX index ended at 6,944.05 points, down 126.28 or 1.79 percent, dropping 212.5 points since last weekend.
PARIS STOCK EXCHANGE: The CAC-40 index closed at 4,933.77 points, down 94.97 or 1.89 percent, losing 144.27 points during the week.
ZURICH STOCK EXCHANGE: The Swiss market index closed at 7,459.94 points, down 118.09 or 1.56 percent and a loss of 193.77 points from last Friday.
MILAN STOCK EXCHANGE: The All Share Mibtel index closed at 25,374 points, down 282 or 1.10 percent on the day and 902 down on the week.
SYDNEY STOCK EXCHANGE: Shares fell 1.01 percent to a two-week closing low, led by losses in resource firms such as Woodside Petroleum and Newcrest Mining on weaker oil and metals prices. The S&P/ASX 200 index fell 58.9 points to end at 5,768.0, the lowest closing level since May 8. The index shed 163 points during the week.
JOHANNESBURG STOCK EXCHANGE: Stocks fell sharply, dragged down by mining shares, while the rand eased in a fairly quiet session as players paused for next week's slew of key economic data.
The All-share index closed at 32,542.39 points, down 690.5 or 2.08 percent, falling 158.59 points during the week. The All Gold index closed at 2,565.16 points, up 4.54 or 0.18 percent, gaining 92.76 points on the week. The Industrial index closed at 21,532.21 points, down 238.06 or 1.09 percent, but better off by 72.11 points since last Friday.
