Spokesperson of Pakistan People's Party Farhatullah Babar has said that the PPP opposed the 17th amendment that was implemented through an executive order. Talking to a private TV channel he said the 17th amendment has created an imbalance between the Parliament and Presidency, adding that base of this imbalance is 58-2b.
To a query Farhatullah Babar said that the PPP had one stance from the very beginning that it didn't need backing and support of Musharraf, rather, it needed support and confidence of the people as it is a masses party. This was the lesson taught by Bhutto Shaheed and PPP cannot ignore the lesson.
The PPP spokesperson said that President Musharraf has said that he would quit politics if his party was defeated in the general elections. He said the Kings party was badly rejected in the elections but he is still sticking to power. He should have resigned by himself, he maintained. Now the Parliament has the power and it would send him packing according to the aspirations of the people.
To a question Farhatullah Babar said, "at present we have no majority in the Senate to impeach the President." Whenever the required majority will be available PPP will act in accordance with its policy, he claimed.
Meanwhile, Spokesman of PML-N Siddiqul Farooq when contacted said they were against the dictatorship. All are witnessing that we have never changed our stance. He said that the president should have been asked to get vote of confidence.
He said that if the President uses 58-2b then it would be one man versus the whole nation. This time, Siddiqul Farooq said people will bring about revolution and that would be positive revolution, the revolution without shedding blood. Benazir Bhutto Shaheed nominated the person in the President House as her killer, including Pervez Elahi, former IB chief and former Sindh CM.
