The NWFP Minister for Population and Welfare, Saleem Khan said on Saturday, old electric turbines and other gadgets of Chitral Hydel Power Station were replaced with new machinery keeping in view the longstanding demand of the local population.
He said this while talking to a delegation of local elite from PF-89 Chitral-I, who called on him at his office. The Minister said that the replacement of old turbines with new ones would enable the power station to increase its power generation capacity by two fold would help deal with the shortage of electricity in Chitral Town and its vicinity.
The Minister also said due to his personal efforts as the District naib Nazim, more than Rs 40 million from provincial fund were spent in Chitral for the rehabilitation of different disaster hit localities. However, he regretted that some of the political figures of Chitral were trying to take the credit of the job he had accomplished. Khan informed the delegation that the rehabilitation of Nadra office along with a mobile service unit had also been approved in Booni Chitral to enable the local population to benefit the services of Nadra at their doorsteps.
