The large number of daily wagers of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) on Tuesday demanded of the government to regularise their services. In a meeting with daily wagers, Bashir Ahmed Khan, divisional president of Peoples Labour Bureau assured them that their case will be considered sympathetically, saying that it was the policy of the PPP and Shaheed Benazir Bhutto to support labour class of the country.
Office-bearers of the Civil Aviation Authority also expressed their complete support for the daily wagers who were working for the CAA for the last 15 to 20 years but they were not given any facility like that of regular employees. An office-bearer of the union said that CAA authorities had assured them that during the coming budget, government would announce the confirmation of all CAA daily wagers.
A daily wager said that in Multan, Bahawalpur, Rahimyar Khan, Sukkur, Rawalpindi and Allama Iqbal International Airport, some 700 to 800 daily wagers were working and their maximum monthly wages was about Rs 7,000 and it was very difficult for them to meet the fundamental needs in the meagre amount. Another daily wager seeking anonymity said that it was very unfortunate that CAA deducts one-day salary when they go on holiday after a week.
