Defence Minister Chaudhry Ahmed Mukhtar has criticised the Ex-Servicemen Society for opposing the policies of President Pervez Musharraf. Talking to BBC Radio, the Minister said they (ex-servicemen) ought to have talked against the President when they were in service or enjoying jobs after retirement.
He said: "When they were given extra jobs by President Musharraf, they did not say anything against him. At that time, they used to sing songs in his praise. Now they have turned against him," he said.
To a question, he said the government was looking into each and every matter carefully as its first priority was the country's progress and prosperity, adding, "we are moving ahead very carefully." He said he was unable to understand why former armymen were making such a move when the country needed economic and political stability.
