Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz President Shahbaz Sharif will take oath as a member of the Punjab Assembly on Friday. Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer has already summoned the session on Friday (June 6). The Election Commission had already published Sharif's name as returned candidate to the Punjab Assembly as a result of un-contested bye-election from the constituency PP-48 Bhakkar-II.
Assembly sources said four bills and ordinances - the Nazria Pakistan Foundation Repeal Ordinance, the Punjab Pension Fund (amendment) Bill 2008, University of Health Sciences (amendment) Bill 2008 and King Edward Medical University (amendment) Bill 2008 - would be tabled in the house. In the question-answer session, the ministers incharges will reply the questions pertaining to home and local government and community development departments.
The sources claimed that during the Friday's proceedings of the house, Fateha would also be offered for the eternal peace of Rana Tariq Mahmood, PML-N MPA from PP-121, who died a few days ago in a mishap. The house will also move a resolution pertaining to restoration of membership of Pakistan in the Commonwealth.
According to the sources, the Speaker will announce the schedule for election of Leader of the House in the assembly. According to sources, Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Dost Muhammad Khosa would resign and the house would elect the new leader of the house on Sunday (June 8).
The nomination papers would be received on Saturday (June 7), while election, if required, would be held on June 8. Shahbaz is expected to take oath as new Chief Minister on Monday. He will take the vote of confidence on June 9 from the house, the sources said, adding that the Punjab Assembly would be put off and a separate budget session would be called afterward.
Confirmed sources told Business Recorder that an effort was afoot for Sharif's unopposed election as leader of the house in the Punjab Assembly. A former federal minister is playing a role of persuading the PML-Q leadership. However, the sources, close to the PML-N leadership, denied it.
