After the intervention of Senior Minister NWFP, Bashir Ahmed Bilour, electricity supply to six tube-wells of the Town-III Peshawar disconnected due to non-payment of arrears by the town administration was restored on Friday.
The Peshawar Electricity Supply Company (Pesco) issued notice to Town-3 administration for clearing about Rs 40 million arrears and warned that power supply to all tube-wells of the areas would be disconnected in case of non-payment. The town administration arranged an amount of Rs 8.8 million but officials of the company had insisted on the clearance of all outstanding arrears and suspended power to six tube-wells, creating water shortage in the areas of Tehkal Bala, Gharibabad, Jehangirabad, Navay Kalay and adjacent villages.
Members of Provincial Assembly (MPAs) of the area, and Town Nazim Mujahid Khan Khalil, TMO Abdul Ghafar and Town Officer Infrastructure Khwaja Imran approached the senior minister and informed him about worsening situation persisting in the affected areas.
The delegation also requested the minister to arrange the payment for the remaining arrears from the district government funds otherwise the town administration might have to face problems in paying salaries to its staff and stop development works.
The Senior Minister immediately contacted the Pesco chief in Peshawar and the Wapda high-ups in Islamabad and asked them for restoration of the power supply to the tube-wells. As a result, the supply to tube-wells was restored. Bilour also asked the town administration to supply potable water in the affected areas through tankers in case of any such emergency.
