The Manager, National Programme for Prevention and Control of Hepatitis (NPPCH), Dr Sharif Ahmad Khan has announced starting the Hepatitis awareness campaign in Urdu and local languages in 20 districts. Addressing a workshop at International Dental College on Saturday, he said that ulemas, patwaris, and Lady Health Workers would play vital roles in this awareness campaign.
He also announced distribution of campaign booklets in the mosques, community centres and other public places. Khan stated that the aim of the campaign was to cut the fatal Hepatitis in the country up to 50 per cent till 2010. He said, 'Hepatitis has become a burden on the health budget that should be reduced by cut in the number of Hepatitis patients'.
Further, Dr Khan maintained that a group of mass medium like radio would be selected to create awareness in the affected areas. The NPPCH manager also said that so far 622,000 Hepatitis B patients have been vaccinated while the laboratories of 104 hospitals have been updated with the facilities for diagnosis of the disease. Furthermore, more than 50 water filtration plants have been installed in the teaching and DHQ hospitals so that the visitors could be saved from the fatal disease.
