A group show of paintings, prints and sculptures by eight contemporary artists was previewed here on Tuesday at the Jharoka Art Gallery (JAG). The exhibition titled 'Vision' portrays various themes and innovative techniques of artists including Aleem Daad, Aqeel Solangi, Hijab Fatima, Imranullah Hunzai, Mehrbano Khattak, Nadia Hussain, Rashda Faridi and Sadia Kiani.
Over 30 paintings have been presented by the artists while the displayed items include three sculptures by Imranullah based on abstract themes with the medium of wood, metal and marble. Rashida Faridi is a print maker, who loves plate impressions on paper through a technique called "Blind Contour", reflecting black and white images. Her prints are titled as "Vibration", "Instructions", "Silence", "Excitement", "Prayers for Peace" and "Here I Am".
Based on the floral motifs with deep red and ocher background, Aqeel Solangi explores the non-physical realities and his concerns are about time and reality. According to him, the layers of print gives him the impression of some one's presence through the depiction of physical layers.
Nadia Hussain has studied painting and miniature from the Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture, Karachi. "I investigate with my drawings and my ideas reflect the experience of having a body existing with a flash," says Nadia about her works.
Aleem Daad's work has no specific themes but mostly focuses on experimentation to explore the colour, texture, medium and technique. A graduate from National College of Arts, Mehr Bano is a graphic designer professionally and started experimenting in print making. "Artists can use any medium of expression as long as it elevates an awakening," About the work, Bano said.
A few of her works include the titles "Summer", "Fall", "The Twins", "Existence Series" and "Experiment (2)". Hijab has highlighted various social issues including women rights with the medium of oil on board while Sadia Kiani has drawn human figure and still life to capture human nature. The exhibition would be inaugurated on June 18 by Eminent Artist, Ghulam Rasool.
