Technology Upgradation and Skill Development Company (TUSDEC) has planned to set up 'Ceramics Development and Training Institute (CDTI)' in Gujranwala. The CDTI is designed to help resuscitate the local sanitaryware ceramics industry and enable it to face competition in international markets.
According to a TUSDEC spokesman, the land for this project costing Rs 314 million has been acquired at village Attawa near Gujranwala .The project team has been hired and the construction will start soon. TUSDEC is planning further initiatives in tableware, industrial ceramics and refractory with the ultimate objective to revive production of ceramics products while being cost effective and internationally competitive.
The Ceramics Institute will house modern equipment and machinery to be used by the local sanitaryware cluster as a Common Facility to help it adopt modern technologies and upgrade their productivity and quality. Future initiatives are being planned for the other three major types of products ie. earthenware, stoneware and porcelain. The areas includes Gujrat, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Chakwal, Lala Musa and around Lahore.
