Pakistan Goods Transporters Association (PGTA) has demanded of the government to take effective steps to control road-robberies, unnecessary challans, fines and other problems being faced by them while plying on roads.
President, PGTA, Chaudhary Mukhtar Ahmed and other office-bearers, including Sultan Mahmood, Malik Shaukat Ali and Nabil Mehmood Tariq made these demands while addressing a press conference here on Monday.
Furthermore, they also demanded for the appointment of a liaison officer to help the goods transporters in resolving their issues including registration of FIRs. Moreover, he said that this business has badly been affected due to increase in incidents of dacoity on roads and snatching of vehicles at the gun-point.
Several drivers have so far been killed in such incidents, he added. He said that increase in diesel price has further aggravated the situation. General Secretary, PGTA, Nabil Mehmood said that increase in amount of fine on roads is among the major issues being faced by them.
He also demanded improvement in facilities at the truck stands besides setting up new stands and said that truck stand at Sabzazar, here is the worst example of poor facilities. Unnecessary toll plazas should be removed and entry of Mazda loaders allowed round the clock into the city, Nabil further demanded.
