Wapda workers have demanded cut in prices of essential commodities and upgradation of pay scales of technical and skilled staff of Wapda. Pakistan Wapda Hydro Electric Central Labour Union (CBA) took out a procession here on Monday to press for their demands.
According to a news release, Khurshid Ahmed, General Secretary of the union led the procession. Other prominent leaders including Syed Sajjad Hussain Shah, Malik Noor Muhammad, Syed Zahid Hussain Shah, Rana Muhammad Akram, Osama Tariq, Chaudhry Maqsood Ahmed, Sajid Kazmi, Ghulam Mohyuddin, Sh Muhammad Shoaib and large number of workers attended the procession. The protestors chanted slogans against price hike and black marketing.
Khurshid Ahmed, General Secretary of the union, addressing the rally at Luxmi Chowk, demanded that the government must implement the repeal of anti-Labour Laws, already announced by the Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani. He said these laws, including Industrial Relation Ordinance, 2002 and banking companies ordinance 27/B, need to be brought into conformity with ILO Convention ratified by the Government of Pakistan.
Calling attention to issues, he demanded freezing prices of essential commodities as well as reinstatement of deposed Judges and repeal of Pemra Ordinance. The speakers demanded that pay scales of Wapda/Electricity Technical staff be upgraded as they perform far hazardous duties and ensure safe working condition to the Electricity Line Staff against accidents by developing "Safer Work Culture."
