The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has issued notification to stay the by-election in NA-123 Lahore, the constituency Nawaz Sharif had decided to contest the by-poll but Lahore High Court disqualified him.
Following the Supreme Court decision, a notification said that Chief Election Commissioner, former Justice Qazi Farooq has been pleased to stay the by-election scheduled to be held on June 26 in Constituency No NA-123 Lahore-VI, as notified by the commission's notification, dated May 7, 2008.
According to a statement, Secretary Election Commission Kanwar Muhammad said that pursuant to Supreme Court order of June 25 in Civil Misc. Application No 1678/2008 in Civil Petition No 778/2008 (Federation of Pakistan through Secretary Cabinet Division, Islamabad Vs. Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and others) and Civil Misc. Application No 1679/2008 in Civil Petition No 779/2008 (Federation of Pakistan through Secretary Cabinet Division, Islamabad Vs. Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and others), the Chief Election Commissioner of Pakistan has been pleased to stay the by-election scheduled to be held on June 26 in Constituency No NA-123 Lahore-VI, as notified by this Commission's Notification, dated the 7th May, 2008.
