The tender of the much-awaited Zero Point Interchange project has been deferred for an indefinite period, as the problem of traffic congestion is being resolved to a great extent with the construction of new avenues and widening of Murree road, sources told Business Recorder here on Wednesday.
Talking to Business Recorder sources said that this was decided in a meeting held recently attended by senior officials of Capital Development Authority (CDA). The sources said that the reason behind this delay is that the board members gave a split verdict as majority of them were against the project as the objective of the project has already being served by the newly constructed Avenues and the Murree Road.
"Besides this the construction of the interchange would be a waste of money", sources maintained. Sharing the background of the interchange, sources said that the aim behind constructing the interchange was to reduce traffic congestion and volume, whereas the construction work on the mega project was scheduled to commence on July 15. The PC-I of the project was approved, tenders were issued and the bidding date was also announced but opposition of some senior officials on this project the board has decided to defer the project.
