National Assembly Speaker Dr Fehmida Mirza Saturday said that the parliamentary system would be strengthened through the constitutional package. Speaking in a TV programme, she said the Parliament will continue to face threat if necessary amendments to the constitution were not brought about.
Fehmida Mirza said democracy had come after hard struggle and people were pinning high hopes on the parliament and democracy. "We have to advance positive ideology and media should provide guideline to the government", she added.
Speaking about the role of the opposition in the parliament, she pointed out that the opposition leader in the present National Assembly was promptly ascertained. "We ascertained the opposition leader the very first day while opposition leader was not ascertained for two years in the past assembly", she observed.
