The Inspector General of Police (IGP), NWFP, Malik Mohammad Naveed has said that 10,000 new 'jawans' are expected to be inducted in the police force of the province under the Prime Minister's package.
Briefing the NWFP Governor Owais Ahmed Ghani here at Police Lines on Friday, he said they are also in the process of fully retraining the entire force in accordance with the present day needs under a phased plan within a period of two to three years.
Chief Secretary Sahibzada Riaz Noor and provincial secretary Home Tipu Mohabat Khan, Commandant Frontier Constabulary Zafarullah Khan, all the additional inspector generals including the CCPO and the deputy inspector generals of police attended the briefing.
The IGP said apart from ensuring round the clock vigilance through police mobile teams, especially in Peshawar, new police stations and posts are also being established in different parts of the province and their timely completion will be ensured.
He said the syllabus of the Police Training Institutions is being further developed by incorporating new concepts, including juvenile justice system. The IGP said necessary initiatives are under way to ensure welfare of the serving jawans as well as families of those who had embraced martyrdom. In this connection, he particularly mentioned the allotment of 440 plots to the heirs of the deceased jawans and said apart from this, provision of employment to the sons of the respective police officials in the force is being ensured.
The IGP also briefed the Governor about the future strategies to maintain law and order and ensuring peace and security in the province. Speaking on the occasion, Owais Ghani appreciated the initiatives taken by the police force to maintain law and order in the province especially during the recent past. He said since the force has always to remain in the forefront and face the brunt, therefore, no effort would be spared to make it fully equipped with the present day needs.
Mentioning the recent actions against miscreants in NWFP, the Governor said the post operation scenario is also equally important and a complete vigilance has to be maintained in this respect. "The efforts of the government to maintain law and order and ensure peace and security in the province have indeed proved effective and efforts have to be continued to achieve the desired goals," he added. "This is not a normal situation and we have to ensure complete writ of the state at every nook and corner of the province on sustainable basis," he said.
Responding to various points raised by both the Chief Secretary and the Inspector General of Police, the Governor said, apart from the measures underway under the Prime Minister's package, there is a need to continue the efforts aggressively to fully strengthen the force in accordance with the present day needs.
