Unidentified gunmen have shot dead administrator of a government-run religious seminary in the troubled Swat valley, police said Tuesday. Maulana Masood came under attack at Sara Cheena area of Tehsil Charbagh on Monday night when he was on his way to home after offering prayers, a police official said.
Masood died at the spot and the three armed assassins fled after committing crime. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far. Bilal Ahmed Danish, nephew of the slain scholar told the police that Masood had no enmity with any one and that he had never received any threat.
A case was registered against unidentified men. Police is investigating the case. Two local leaders of Islamic groups - Jamaat-i-Islami and Ishaat-e-Tawheed Wal-Sunnah were shot dead in Swat by unidentified men two weeks back. It is believed that the incidents are 'targeted killings'.
