Kenyan tea prices were mixed at this week's auction, with some firming due to improved quality, traders said on Wednesday. Mombasa-based Africa Tea Brokers (ATB) said 93,241 packages were offered for sale, with 10,840 unsold. At last week's sale 100,830 packages were offered, with 15,037 unsold.
"There was good demand which strengthened as the sale progressed for the packages on offer," Tea Brokers East Africa Limited, another trader, said in its market report. Best BP1s fetched $3.00-$2.87 per kg compared with last week's $3.05-$2.80 per kg. Best PF1s sold at $2.96-$2.70 per kg, compared with $2.78-$2.65 per kg at the previous auction.
Africa Tea Brokers said Pakistan Packers, Afghanistan and Sudan bought more tea than last week. Egyptian Packers and Kazakhstan bought less, as did the Egyptian Government Sector and Pakistan Bazaar.
