'Let us not forget, for a moment, that today, Pakistan needs to be a more stable, stronger and more powerful state than it ever was. By the grace of God, we are a nuclear power. That status provides us tremendous power and influence in our dealings with other nations.
Despite our problems, we have the 1973 Constitution, an excellent consensus document, which provides parameters and mechanisms, for running the affairs of the state. We have also an elected representative government. Hence, you should feel secure.' Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani averred this while addressing the graduation ceremony of the 88th National Management course and 3rd Senior Management course here on Thursday.
The Prime Minister vociferously urged upon the participants of the course to give the people hope, and not despair. "Give them trust and not fear; give them relief and not grief; and go to their doorsteps instead of making them languish at your doorsteps. Each one of you has to make a contribution to lift the spirit of the people you serve,' he implored.
Stressing upon the participants, he further said that effectiveness and the value of their actions would be determined by the speed and the quality of the service delivery, in a socio-economic and political environment, where income deprivation, Islamic extremism, sectarian and ethnic divides, vested interests, and misguided perceptions have all combined, to make it an extremely difficult challenge, he added.
Gilani dilating further said nation-building required years of hard work and many resources, human as well as financial, tangible as well as intangible. 'There are also unique features in each country, which require indigenous solutions. In Pakistan's case too, we need to solve our problems ourselves. And that is what you are supposed to undertake,' he averred.
On the occasion while quoting Father of the Nation Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Gilani urged the participants for work and more work for the country which they belong. The Prime Minister asking the civil servants to refrain from gaining undue favours, misuse of power and stressed upon them to go for an in-depth analysis of the facts and a correct assessment of the prevailing environment.'
We have already been presented the report of Dr Ishrat Hussain's, Commission on Governmental Reforms. Here I would direct the Secretary Establishment to examine the recommendations and bring up the same before the Cabinet within a period of one month,' Gilani said.
PM, on the occasion answering queries regarding situation in tribal areas, said that political solution would be sought in this regard. He said regarding operation in tribal areas they had talked to political leaders including Asif Ali Zardari, Nawaz Sharif, Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehaman, Asfandyar Wali and other leaders of their coalition.
Stating that development and other similar efforts in Fata would be undertaken. He said legislators from the area Governor NWFP were all in unison on having peace in the region. The Prime Minister responding to query on country's relations with US said that Pakistan would enhance economic, defence, education, health ties with the country. He dilating on his tour of United States said this would be not for getting aid but would be for enhancement of development, prosperity of our country, he pointed.
Stating that parliament was venue to discuss issue of judiciary, the Prime Minister said they were true in solving the issue. He said it was a wrong notion that PPP felt threatened in any way by solution of judges' issue. In the end, the Prime Minister thanked Lieutenant General Javed Hassan, Rector, NSPP and Dean, National Management College for providing him the opportunity to address the august gathering.
