Bearish sentiment was again witnessed on the interbank market on Monday amid higher demand for dollars, dealers said. The rupee fell sharply against dollar, losing 45 paisa for buying at 70.95 and it also lost 38 paisa for selling at 70.98, they added.
In the first session of Asian trade dollar commenced the week on a weak note, weighed down by lingering worries about the health of the US financial sector ahead of earnings reports from regional banks this week. The US dollar inched down against a basket of currencies from Friday's levels. The euro gained a tenth of a percent from late New York trade on Friday to $1.5864.
OPEN MARKET RATES: Same trend was again witnessed on the open market as the rupee lost 90 paisa against dollar for buying at 71.70 and it also shed 75 paisa for selling at 72.05, dealers said. The rupee also continued its weakness versus euro, shedding 95 paisa for buying at Rs 112.35 and it also lost 1.05 for selling at Rs 112.55, dealers said.

RUPEE IN LAHORE: The rupee lost 80 paisa against dollar on the buying side at Rs 72.30 and 50 paisa on selling at Rs 73.00 at Lahore currency market on Monday.
The dollar closed higher at Rs 72.30 and Rs 73.00 against Saturday's closing of Rs 71.50 and Rs 72.50 on the buying and selling counters. Pound sterling buying and selling rates moved up from Rs 141.00 and Rs 142.00 to Rs 142.00 and Rs 143.00.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The dollar surged by 80 paisa against rupee at the currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi on Monday. The dollar opened at Rs 72 (buying) and Rs 73 (selling) against last rate of Rs 71.20 (buying) and Rs 71.40 (selling). It did not observe further change in the evening session and closed at Rs 72 (buying) and Rs 73 (selling).
Pound sterling opened at Rs 142.60 (buying) and Rs 142.80 (selling) against last rate of Rs 142 (buying) and Rs 142.20 (selling). It did not observe further change in the second session and closed at Rs 142.60 (buying) and Rs 142.80 (selling).
