Punjab Chief Minister, Shahbaz Sharif has decided to form a committee to identify and solve the issues affecting Pakistan's economic and the business community in particular. He said this to a 27-member delegation of Lahore Chambers of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) headed by its President Mohammad Ali Mian.
The delegation comprising members of executive committee and the former LCCI Presidents, Mian Tajjamal Hussain, Tariq Hameed, Ijaz Butt, Sheikh Mohammad Asif, Shahid Hassan Sheikh, former Senor Vice President, Abdul Basit, former Vice Presidents Shahzad Ali Malik and Sheikh Mohammad Arshad.
The Chief Minister said that Punjab government was giving special attention to improve the law and order situation in the province that was a prerequisite for both the local and foreign investment.
Further, he said the government was using all available resources to boost the agriculture sector as the country's future lies with agro-dollar and not with the petro-dollar. Over the issue of traffic mess in the city, he said bids for a six-storey parking plaza near Liberty Market have already been invited though print media and work on this project would start soon.
Shabaz also said that the government was also going to introduce metered parking in posh areas of the Lahore. While promising to visit LCCI soon, he said that the government was taking all possible measures to live up to the people's expectations however sought co-operation from the business community in this regard.
The LCCI President assured Shahbaz of his full co-operation for economic turnaround. He said that the LCCI sector specific committees were ready to forward their proposals to the government for the betterment of all segments of the economy. Further, he said that Punjab has huge potential for religious tourism that needs to be tapped to optimum level.
He also said that in Cholistan, the government has 6.6 million acres of land that could be given to the agriculturists for an agri-revolution in the province.
Furthermore, the agriculture sector was in deep crisis due to acute water shortage and it has become essential for the government to come up with a solid strategy to cope with the worsening situation. 'The LCCI and the Industry had already done a lot of work on mechanised farming that could be provided to the government to expedite work on it,' he added. Also he stated that Chiniot and Kalabagh areas have plenty of iron ore therefore the government could set up a steel mill in that area.
