The employees of PTCL on Thursday broke into PTCL Headquarters and vowed to stay there until their demands are fulfilled. The employees said that their pay scale should be revised effective 2005 and augmented like that of other organisations.
They demanded that contract employees should be made permanent, adding if their demands are not met, they will bring the entire PTCL system to a halt. Meanwhile, the prime minister's committee comprising four ministers met Thursday to take up the remaining demands of protesting employees of the PTCL.
The committee, comprising IT and Telecommunications Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira, Finance Minister Naveed Qamar and Labour & Manpower Minister Syed Khurshid Shah discussed the issues.
The committee also discussed the issues with union leaders to find an amicable solution to the issues. Syed Khurshid Shah said the government is committed to resolving the issues being faced by the employees of PTCL as early as possible.
In addition, a sub-committee headed by secretary labour Malik Muhammad Asif and secretary information technology, Hafeezur Rehman was established. The committee was directed to submit its report after consultation with the PTCL employees by Friday.
