Instead of providing relief, Nadra's centre in front of the Sindh Assembly building is a bane for the people. Long queues could be seen at the Nadra Swift Registration Centre (NSRC) South since early morning.
Following government's announcement of issuance of national ID cards free of cost, the people rushed to the NSRC to get registered in the national database, but long queues reflect shortage of space as only 250 tokens are issued daily. The centres are ill-equipped and under-staffed, one token issuer and only four data entry operators.
The workload could not be handled even after the management increased working hours for this particular centre till 5 pm instead of 3 pm. The people living in close proximity of the centre have demanded that Nadra office should be shifted to some other place to overcome the shortage of space.
It is all the more necessary because the centre is located in high security zone, which often causes more problems to the common man. Too many people wait inside the centre and many more stand outside the office premises for their turn. Nadra has a network of around 26 NSRCs in Karachi.
