Medical rehabilitation of persons with disabilities in quake-affected areas (MRDEA-Erra) would train some 70,000 special people under community-based rehabilitation (CBR) programme, it was learnt on Wednesday. According to sources the programme would cover persons with all kinds of disabilities and provide them with local solutions tailored to available resources.
For the purpose, community rehabilitation workers and supervisors have been advised to visit the disabled and their families to impart them appropriate information, therapy and training, besides facilitating their rights and duties, sources added.
CBR had been implemented in more than 90 countries through combined efforts of the persons with disabilities, their families, communities, relevant government and non-government organisations working in disability and development sectors.
"It is multi-sectoral approach and had five major components including health, education, livelihood, social integration and empowerment," sources observed, adding," primary objective of the programme was to enhance capacities and skills of the special people as they are backbone of the project."
