Convenor All Parties Democratic Movement (APDM) Mehmood Khan Achakzai on Wednesday said APDM would resist any move aimed at toppling the democratically elected government. Talking to a private television channel the seasoned politician said it has been an unfortunate practice in the past that political parties have been forming alliances in support of military take-overs.
He said the APDM would keep struggling for the revival of institutions and strengthening of parliament but it would never support any move that paves way for another military take-over.
He regretted that less importance was given to strengthen democratic institutions in country in the past. He said the country was passing through a crucial stage of its history and it is responsibility of the political leadership to guide the nation in right direction by speaking the truth. The country should be ruled under the constitution with an independent judiciary and press and added that APDM is ready to play its due role in this regard.
He criticised US policies vis- a vis the war on terror saying was the Americans who created this problem in the region. He said during Afgan-Soviet war fighters from all across the world were brought to the region and trained but now Pakistan was being blamed.
