Finance department of Punjab government has released the budget of about Rs 24.59 billion to Punjab Police for the fiscal year 2008-09. The budget released for southern Punjab including Multan, Bahawalpur and D.G. Khan range is about Rs 3.19 billion.
It is a good sign that Punjab Police is getting a huge amount of budget and its financial position has improved a lot. But the other side of the picture shows that despite of bringing reforms, the general public sees no improvement in the police culture. If we look on the performance of police, then the statistics shows that the situation of law and order has not improved. No reduction in crimes, robbery, rape cases and dacoity has been observed.
People are still reluctant to go in the police stations. Though the government is trying to bring reforms in the police department by providing them lot of funds but still performance of the police is zero.
