The government has planned to rehabilitate marginal land in Kasur, Sheikhupura, Gujranwala and Nankana Sahib for cereal production with a total cost of Rs 800 million. This was disclosed by Senior Minister Raja Riaz Ahmad while addressing a meeting of farmers at his office, here Thursday.
He said that the government has decided to introduce tunnel technology for vegetable production with a cost of Rs 551 million and 840 low tunnels will be provided to farmers at subsidised rates.
The government is also taking steps to provide facilities to the farmers of Barani areas. As many as 2000 lift irrigation schemes will be completed in the current fiscal year, he informed. Likewise, lining of 28000 watercourses will also be completed. Promotion of drip and sprinkle system is also being given priority and this system will be installed at an area of 130642 acres.
The government is also contemplating to establish an institute at Renala Khurd for training and research studies in water efficiencies, he disclosed. Our purpose is to ensure efficient supply of water to farmers for increasing agriculture production, he concluded.
