After confirmation of polio virus in 3-year old child of district Okara, the Punjab government is launching a special anti-polio vaccination campaign in four districts of the province including Okara, Kasur, Nankana Sahib and Sheikhupura from 4th to 6th August.
Sources in the health department said that a national campaign against polio would be initiated in 25 districts from 11th to 13th August and this process will continue till complete eradication of polio.
The sources said that polio virus was found in the stool of 3-years old Asif of Okara, however, due to administration of 15 doses of polio vaccination he remained safe from physical or mental disability. The repeated polio vaccination helps protect children from physical disability despite poliovirus attacks.
It may be mentioned that Muhammad Asif of Chak No 25/2R of Okara was admitted in DHQ Hospital Okara for treatment of hypokalemia and the sample of the stool of the child was sent to National Institute of Health (NIH) Islamabad where polio virus was traced but he was found to be in perfect physical and mental condition.
