Volatility seems to have been in full grip on the commodities wholesale markets, as buyers showed concern over falling prices of essentials saying they cannot be sure how long favourable condition will rule during the week ended on August 2, 2008. Essentials showing downturn were wheat, grams all kinds gur, while pineapple depicted rising trend.
It was on Monday that gur low quality gave in Rs 500 to Rs 1200, while the better type was seen put at Rs 3000. Sugar better type rose by Rs 60 to Rs 3000, while the other type showed no change. Pineapple on Jodia Bazaar ended higher by Rs 125 to Rs 1125 and malapine full slice was quoted at Rs 1488.
On Tuesday all round retreat was marked in gram prices such as yellow peas Canada shed Rs 50 to Rs 3800, while the other type was seen at Rs 4050, yellow peas dal from Canada stayed unchanged while low type gave in Rs 50 to Rs 4200 and better quality was lower by Rs 100 to Rs 4400, beetle Chana No I was sharply down by Rs 200 to Rs 4600, while better type was quoted at Rs 4850, beetle 50x50 shed Rs 150 to Rs 4450, while other type was quoted at Rs 4700, dal beetle was down by Rs 50 to RS 5750, while low type was seen put at Rs 5500, wheat old and new with bardana lost Rs 30 to Rs 2300, while better type was marked at Rs 2315. Guwar Sindh better type rose by Rs 50 to Rs 2700, while the other type was unchanged at Rs 2400, bajra inferior type lost Rs 50 to Rs 2400, while the other type stayed put at Rs 2900.
On Wednesday chemicals showed changes in (per Kg) N.J. Jaiwan rose by Rs 3 to Rs 193, formic acid from Germany rose by Rs 10 to RS 120, and Oxalic acid from China shed Rs 2 to Rs 88, petroleum jelly sulphonic acid hard (DDBSA) shed Rs 3 to Rs 131, PVA Japan rose by Re 1 to Rs 253, caustic Taiwan lost Rs 6 to Rs 50, hydrosulphate China 88 percent went down by Rs 3 to Rs 121, same item from Germany shed Rs 2 to Rs 143. Acetic acid lost 20 paisa to Rs 91, same item from Korea rose by Re 1 to Rs 91, hydrogen peroxide 35 percent Taiwan was higher by Rs 6.60 to Rs 72.60, same item from Korea up Rs 9 to Rs 73 and Thailand quoted at Rs 70. On the commodities side, wheat old and new with Baradana shed Rs 50 to Rs 2250, while the other type was seen at Rs 2265.
On Thursday rates issued by the Karachi Grain and Seeds Merchants Group carried no change as markets were virtually closed on account of Shab-e-Meraj holiday. Not a single deal was witnessed on the grain and seeds markets on Friday as participants were busy in Juma prayers.
The tea items rates closed higher on Jodia Bazaar on Friday. The changes were : KENYAN TEA (per kg): PF-1 A grade up by Rs 10 to Rs 260, B grade higher by Rs 10 to Rs 250, plus C grade went upward by Rs 10 to Rs 240 and C grade moved higher by Rs 10 to Rs 220.BP-1: A-1 grade went up by Rs 15 to Rs 270, B grade finished higher by Rs 10 to Rs 245, plus C grade went upward by Rs 5 to Rs 240 and C grade higher by Rs 5 to Rs 225.
On Saturday business was subdued as buyers showed less interest in dealings. Masoor Canada lost Rs 100 to Rs 8900-9400. Wheat old and new burdana was higher by Rs 60 to Rs 2310-2325 as supply was not enough to meet the demand. Sugar low type maintained its overnight level at Rs 2700, while the best type gained Rs 40 to Rs 3040.
Jute goods edged higher on Jodia Bazaar on Saturday. The changes were: JUTE GOODS TWINE (per kg): 20x3 Brown closed up by Re 1 to Rs 46, 16x3 CRT/Indus moved upward by Re 1 to Rs 46, 8x3 finished higher by Rs 2 to Rs 78 and 40x2 Brown went up by Re 1 to Rs 43.50.
