Manchester United defender Patrice Evra and Chelsea groundsman Sam Bethell on Wednesday denied charges levelled against them by the Football Association over their part in the Battle of Stamford Bridge last season.
Evra and Bethell exchanged blows after members of Chelsea's groundstaff demanded that United's players leave the pitch to finish their post-match warm-down. Following a lengthy investigation by the FA, both men were charged with improper conduct, while Bethell was also charged with using abusive language aggravated by reference to nationality/race. Evra insisted he had done nothing wrong while Chelsea were incensed at the damning accusation levelled against Bethell.
