The Judicial Activism Panel (JAP) has asked the government to propose a resolution against the arrest and detention of Dr Aafia Siddiqi before the Untied Nation and take up the matter before the International Court of Justice. The JAP meeting held on Friday by JAP Chairman Azhar Siddiq, took strong notice of the three-year disappearance, arrest and illegal extradition of Dr Aafia Siddiqui.
The meeting also demanded that the government of Pakistan allow teams of Pakistani lawyers with expertise on the issue to proceed to the United States of America to plead the case. It suggested that a high powered inquiry committee headed by retired judges of superior courts including former Justice Wajihuddin and Justice Saeed-uz-Zaman Siddiqui should immediately be formed to probe the disappearance of Siddiqui and her kids, their extradition to Afghanistan and then to USA.
The JAP also demanded the registration of criminal cases against the people involved in handing over Dr Siddiqui to the Americans. The meeting decided that the JAP would join protests for the release and recovery of Siddiqui, on Saturday at Lahore Press Club.
