Lahore High Court Chief Justice Sayed Zahid Hussain has disposed of the suo motu proceedings taken against the bad sanitary conditions of the sessions court after the chief secretary Punjab assured that better arrangements has been done to redress the complaints.
The chief justice disposed of the matter after examining the report submitted by Chief Secretary and hoped that serious steps would be taken and efforts would be made by the provincial government to avoid such situation in future. The chief justice had taken notice on a picture published in a newspaper with captioned "Sessions courts seeking justice".
The picture showed that the court of an additional sessions judge was filled with stagnant rainy water, that hampered the judicial works. Chief Secretary in his report submitted that hump at the entrance gates had been improved to further block the entry of surface run-off water from the adjoining streets into the old session court block.
In addition sandbags are made available to cope with any similar unforeseen even, he added. He said Wasa had deployed staff and pumping equipment for removal of water from the premises of the court. An independent team comprising a supervisor, a plumber, and an electrician has been directed to be vigilant round the clock, he said.
He said in case of heavy rain, the supervisor shall immediately inform the sub engineer who will ensure his presence on site. The court was informed that after completion of judicial complex near the sessions court would be completed by the end of the year and all judges of sessions court would be shifted to it. It was also informed that the old session court block shall be demolished for construction of additional and civil judges block.
