Taxis of the city have without exception abandoned the practice of operating by fare meters. Instead, they demand of the hirer a lump sum fare for the distance he/she has to travel. LPG is, nowadays a costlier gas than CNG and almost all taxis are using CNG, but the false aim of using LPG by taxi drivers is to dupe passengers. This goes on all over the city and surprisingly right in the presence of traffic cops.
Firstly, no fitness certificate should be issued to taxis, which do not have functioning fare meters. It also must be ensured that the meters record correct fare readings. To avoid confusion about the gas being used in the taxi, every taxi should be made to run on CNG alone. The fleecing of commuters by taxis is touching abnormal proportions, which must be put down.
